Our Story

About u-turnback2basics

We believe in the power of nature, resilience, and community. Based in Norfolk, we create outdoor experiences designed for people to reconnect with the fundamentals of life - self-awareness, survival skills, and personal growth.

Our mission is to support individuals from all walks of life, with a strong focus on veterans and vulnerable individuals, helping them build resilience, develop essential skills, and rediscover a sense of purpose through the outdoors.

Founded by Andy, a veteran who found peace and clarity in nature after leaving military service, u-turnback2basics was built on the belief that outdoors has the power to heal. Having faced the challenges of adapting to a civilian life, Andy created this initiative to help others who may be struggling, providing a space where you can reconnect, rebuild, and move forward with confidence.

We offer a range of outdoor programs designed to help individuals build confidence, learn new skills, and find a sense of belonging.

Tailored Outdoor Experiences

We support veterans, helping them transition into civilian life by offering camping, survival skills, and outdoor challenges that restore confidence and purpose. For those facing difficult circumstances, our workshops in bushcraft, campfire cooking, and nature-based mindfulness provide a safe space to gain independence and self-reliance. Our team-building programs bring groups together, strengthening leadership, communication, and collaboration through shared challenges in nature.

For those seeking deeper immersion, our expeditions push participants both mentally and physically, combining outdoor adventure with hands-on learning. At the heart of everything we do is a strong community, built on that belief that nature has the power to heal, inspire, and transform. Based in Norfolk, we are committed to making outdoors more accessible, creating opportunities for growth, and helping people reconnect with themselves and the world around them.
